Pongal is a harvest festival of Tamil Nadu.It starts on 14 th January (Makara Sankranthi) .To show the gratitude towards the Mother Nature for blessing with normal rain fall during harvest time. Celebration lasts for three days.The day before Pongal is called Bhogi.They clean the house and put rangoli all over the places. Buy new cloths for all members of the family.Pongal( a sweet dish) offered to Lord Indra(the rain god)on pongal day.Third day is Mattu pongal(Kanu) Sisters visit their brothers and pray for their welfare. There is a feast with all items Pongal is an occasion for family get-together
